Halloween 2016!

If you have been following you will know that I love Halloween and this year was no exception. I decided that I was going to be a pin-up girl lamp, which was inspired by the leg lamp from “A Christmas Story” and a new pin-up inspired store near my job. I started this costume by going to the Collection.

The Stats:

  • Shirt: $0, 100% Polyester
  • Long Dress: $6, 100% Polyester
  • Disassembled Dress: $4, 100% Polyester
  • Long Skirt: $20, 100% Polyester (I purchased this new and wore once.)
    • Total Cost: $30

I knew how I wanted this to look and that I wanted to sure up all of these pieces, so I started by using the bodice of the long dress because it already had some structure.

I then worked on the straps, as I must always have straps. New to me was boning in the entire dress to make it stable and to make sure that there were no wardrobe malfunctions during the night.

I finally finished the top and both the front and back ended up looking good as well as being comfortable with good coverage.

I then added just the bottom part of the long skirt to make it have volume without having many layers of fabric. I thought it looked good so far but I wanted to make a statement in a sarcastic manner by being a walking sexual innuendo.

So I came up with some lamp themed phrases and went to town adding them to the dress.

I also bought switches to put in the costume. I was hoping that I would be able to electrically wire the dress…but I did not have the skill or time to do so. I will be working on that skill for another time.

I also painted and wrote on the shoes that I wore to match with the dress.

For this costume I thought about getting a wig that I could wear, but decided again it and learning to do my hair in a pin-up style. That took a while as I usually don’t style my hair. However I was finally finished and ready to go out for a night of fun and dancing!

I thought it worked well, and even though I thought pin-up girl lamp was easily identifiable, I got mostly “Are you a one night stand?” which I think is wonderfully creative.

Now that Halloween 2016, is over I have already started thinking about next year’s costume. I will have to raid the Collection again to find something good.
